Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Core Beliefs

The Bible

We believe the Bible to be the entire and true Word of God, completely without error

• That the 66 books comprising the Old and New Testaments were inspired by God, completely inerrant and infallible
• That God has preserved His Word for us throughout the ages in the Authorized King James Version
• That the Bible is our final authority in all matters of faith and conduct

The Godhead

We believe in one, triune God who is Creator of all, holy, and eternally existent as three equal Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit

• That the Trinity is co-equal in being, co-identical in nature, and co-equal in power and glory
• That God is Creator, Maker, Preserver, and Sustainer of all things, both visible and invisible

The Father

We believe that God the Father (the first Person of the Trinity) is the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that He is the Father of all who are saved by His grace

• That He hears and answers prayers
• That He abides in Heaven and sent the Lord Jesus Christ to be the Savior of the world

The Lord Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ (the second Person of the Trinity) is God manifest in a body of human flesh, without ceasing to be God, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men

• That Jesus was supernaturally conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of a virgin, Mary
• In His eternal existence with the Father, in pre-incarnate glory
• In His deity as God, work of creation, sinless life, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, and triumphant ascension 
• That He accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice 
• That He secured our justification by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead
• In His present exaltation at the right hand of the Father, where He continually makes intercession for believers
• That He will return to this earth in the future, set up a kingdom without end, and rule the nations

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, convicts the world of sin, in righteousness and judgment. He is the One who acts in the regeneration of the believer, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption 

• That the Holy Spirit assists believers in understanding and rightly dividing the Scriptures 
• That He regenerates, indwells, seals, sanctifies, illuminates, and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ
• That He baptizes believers at conversion into the Body of Christ, bestows upon them His gifts at His discretion, and fills those yielded to Him

Mankind

We believe that man was created by God in innocence; but by willful disobedience to God’s command, man fell from his sinless state and exists now in condemnation and in need of salvation

• That all his posterity inherited spiritual depravity and defilement
• That all men therefore are guilty before God and condemned to physical and spiritual death

Salvation

We believe that salvation is a free gift given by the grace of God

• That by the Father, Christ voluntarily suffered a propitiatory death
• That justification is by faith alone in the all-sufficient sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ
• That God’s gift of salvation is eternal, giving believers full assurance and the ability to live a victorious Christian life
